Working capital is needed for running the business operation of a Corporate, starting from procuring the inventory to the ultimate realization of cash from the sales. Some businesses are by their nature, highly working capital-intensive; while some others are cash-rich and may have a negative working capital requirement. Working capital requirement can fluctuate within a year keeping up with seasonality, sudden/ opportunistic business growth etc. Businesses can be caught-up in situations, where they may have healthy margin but still cash-starved. The prudential objective would be to keep running the cash pipeline balanced.
